Spencer Atkins is an artist who grew up and currently lives in Regina, Saskatchewan.  Atkins works mainly in painting exploring rural-urban identity, memory and history.

Artist Statement

Spencer Atkins’ current series of paintings reconstruct the found materials that surround us or that are forgotten.  Inspired by all aspects of urban rural culture, Atkins attempts to elevate common imagery and materials to express his own voice out of consumer materials.  Atkins sources most of his imagery stock design websites, second hand clothing stores and phrases he hears in his day to day life.  A recurring element is the relationship between text and image by allowing the text to determine the overall composition of the final piece.
